The Golden Globes 2013: I laughed, I cried, I actually saw more than The Dresses!

Here are a few of my favorite things from the 2013 Golden Globe Awards, from the fashion, jewels and beauty to the moments that left an impression!

Jennifer Lawrence Getty

“I beat Meryl!” quipped Jennifer Lawrence when she won the globe!  The reference to First Wives Club (and guts to jest with Mrs. Streep) makes it official.  She’s more than an “It Girl.”  She’s here to stay.

Lawrence was gorgeous in a red-coral Dior Haute Couture gown.  I love the color!  The smooth metallic belt and box clutch ads a bit of edge.  These belts have appeared on several red carpets now and I can’t wait to get my waist in one!

Julianne Moore looked the opposite of the character she played in Game Change – chic and overjoyed for her nomination.  She wore a Tom Ford dress and diamond chandelier earrings.

Catherine Zeta Jones

Catherine Zeta Jones presented a clip from Les Miserables wearing an ivory Jenny Packham gown with sheer sleeves, shimmery embellishments and a romantic silhouette.  The style is somewhat reminiscent of the twenties, my favorite era, and this is one of my favorite dresses of the evening.

Emily Blunt in Michael Kors Getty

Emily Blunt was simply statuesque.  She wore a gold Michael Kors dress with cutouts and and Lorraine Schwartz jewels.  Her form and face – just beautiful.

Classic, yet trendy describes Rachel Weisz’s Louis Vuitton dress with sheer panels covered in polka dots.  I think she looked so pretty and her hair and makeup gave her a little extra vavoom!

Kate Hudson wore a black Alexander McQueen keyhole gown with gold trim around the neck and on the belt.  It’s sexy, but understated and unique.  Black and gold is such a popular combination right now and it’s oh so chic.

Jennifer Garner in Vivienne Westwood Couture Getty

Ben Affleck’s leading lady also shone in red.  Jennifer Garner wore a sequined Vivienne Westwood Couture gown in a rich red.  I like how the sequins were sewn in a pattern to give the dress some texture.  Her tousled curls were swept back in a blasé way to reveal yellow gold and diamond earrings by David Webb.

Before Garner presented, she was sweet enough to thank a couple people her husband forgot. Ben’s a lucky man – two golden trophies to match his (not just a) trophy wife.

Isla Fisher GettyIsla Fisher was stunning in a pale Reem Acra gown with a sheer neckline and shiny embellishments.  I loved the color of her hair with the hue of the dress and her berry lip.

Jessica Chastain GettyApparently I have a thing for red heads.  While I’m not crazy about the extra fabric on the top, I still think Jessica Chastain looks amazing in this Calvin Klein Collection dress.  Maybe it’s the electric color with her ginger hair.

Miranda Kerr and Orlando Bloom arrive at 70th Annual Golden Globe AwardsMirand Kerr lived up to her title as a Victoria Secret model in this bombshell of a dress.  Her red Zuhair Murad gown featured a deep V neck and high slit.  Her statement earrings, lingerie runway-ready hair, red lips and arm candy, husband Orlando Bloom, complete her sexy ensemble.

Jennifer Lawrence in Zuhair Murad Getty

Jennifer Lopez looked absolutely ravishing in a nude Zuhair Murad gown that made her appear as if she was wearing nothing but delicate white lace.  The gown blended perfectly with her skin.  Her curls were swept to the side in an Old Hollywood sort of way, which proved to be a popular style that evening.

70th Annual Golden Globe Awards - Arrivals

I think Lea Michele’s dress suited her perfectly.  The shimmery white Elie Saab featuring her signature thigh high slit was young and fun and fit for a stage.  But I’d love to see her try something a bit more edgy.

Anne Hathaway GettyAnne Hathaway wore a simply elegant Chanel gown.  She glowed in the white, sparkly creation, but it left me wanting more.

UPDATE:

Found some new dresses that I adore…
a

Since JT couldn’t, Vanessa Hudgens brought sexy back in a shiny Jenny Packham dress at the Warner Bros. and InStyle Golden Globe Awards After Party.  She looks party-ready with sultry eye makeup, large yellow gold earrings, a plunging neckline and large sequins.  Note: More yellow gold and black!  It’s a little rock and roll and a lot of glam – love it!

aAlso at the party, Julianne Hough wore another Jenny Packham creation.  (Jenny Packham is a popular lady!)  The blush pink gown was given some edge with structured shoulders, a deep V neckline and shiny side panels.  I like the silhouette the lines create, her matching pink lip and her hair in a retro wave.

IAshley Tisdale nailed it in this Issa dress at the same party.  The nude dress is so simple and sleek and the slim fit and cutouts keep it sassy.  She paired it with a cuff by Sylva & Cie, earrings by State Room and a clubch by L. K. Bennett.

The 2012 Oscars: White is still the new black… And that leg!

It’s that time of year again… Let’s just cut right to it.  Below are the nominations for my “Best Dressed” and “Pretty Good” list.

Emma Stone, in Giambattista Valli Haute Couture with a Louis Vuitton clutch and jewels.  Love the neck, love the color, love her, love to see what she wears next.  She made me laugh as a presenter with her cheeky yet charming personality…  “We should have some banter. Where you act cocky and I shut you down and you say I look pretty and I say ‘no chance funny boy’!” My only complaint is that it looks a little big.

Sandra Bullock, in Marchesa.  The white top and black bottom theme from previous award shows continues on Sandra.  The embellished waist and shoulders is another notable trend on the red carpet.  The black and white combination is sophisticated, the shape and low draped back is sexy and the embellishments are chic.  But I may be a little biased.

Glenn Close, in Zac Posen with Bulgari jewels.  This evergreen color is so intriguing and it looks beautiful on the blonde Close.  I adore the structured corset and tuxedo jacket.  But most of all, I like how she exudes assurance.

And here’s Angelina Jolie’s right leg.  Oh, and Miss Jolie herself, in Atelier Versace with Salvatore Ferragamo shoes.  I’m feeling the high slit but her permanent stance did seem a little odd.  Her highlighted, loose curls beautifully contrast the black velvet, structured gown.  I have a thing for black velvet because the rich shade is at its darkest in velvet.  She looks gorgeous, as always.  I’d love to know the name of that lip color.  However, I will agree with a fellow Oscar party guest, “She needs to eat a bowl of rice and beans!”

Tina Fey, in Carolina Herrera with Bulgari jewels and a Roger Vivier clutch.  While Fey’s navy dress is not exceptional, I think she looks fabulous.  I adore the trendy peplum, color and perfect fit.  Her hair is swept off her face in a chic bouffant bun and her face is gorgeous.  Her glowing confidence doesn’t hurt either.

Michelle Williams continues to look sweet and adoring in Louis Vuitton with Forevermark jewels and a Bottega Veneta clutch.  I look forward to seeing her in something a little more daring. She further establishes the peplum trend, which I expect to be in high demand this spring.  To easily incorporate it into your wardrobe, choose a top with peplum and pair it with skinny jeans or a pencil skirt.

I’m supposed to like this look.  It’s Givenchy Haute Couture on Rooney Mara.  It has topped the majority of the ‘Best Dressed’ lists.  But I can’t help but think of my grandmother’s vintage bras when I look at the bust detail.  She must be chicer than I.

Milla Jovovich continues the white is the new black trend, which is a welcome change of pace on the red carpet.  Add a little train, loads of shimmer and one sleeve and we get this stunning Elie Saab gown.  This is one of my favorites.

More white: Sofia Vergara, in Roberto Cavalli with Casadei heels, Judith Leiber bag and Lorraine Schwartz jewelry.  Do I really need to comment?  Miss Vergara seems to do no wrong.

Octavia Spencer, in Tadashi Shoji with Lorraine Schwartz jewels, a Leiber clutch and only one pair of Spanx.  This is one of her best looks yet.

Gwyneth Paltrow, in Tom Ford.  She manages to make a long cape look chic and effortless.  Without the cape the dress is a little boring but then there’s no distraction from her beauty.

Jennifer Lopez looks oh so glam in a silver Zuhair Murad gown with a 70s vibe.

From white and silver to pastels, pale shades have stepped onto the main stage.  This is Louise Roe, in a blush Black Halo gown.  Some of you may be thinking, who is this girl?  Well, I’m not sure.  In my brief research to find her dress’ label I saw varying claims, including actress (StyleBistro), ABC Oscar correspondent (Socialite Life) and Glamour magazine’s new fashion editor (Yahoo!).  One thing’s for sure, I adore this tailored gown with jacket-like top, structured layers and embellished belt.

Kate Mara, in Jack Guisso Couture.  The way she is standing – shoulders slightly slumped, chin down and a little smirk – reminds me of her creepy character, Hayden, in American Horror Story!  But looking past the vengeful ghost, this is such a pretty blush dress with floral appliques and lines of shimmer.

Continuing the pastel parade, Melissa McCarthy, in Marina Rinaldi.  While, I think Marina Rinaldi, the women’s division of Max Mara, was a better choice, I wish she chose a more vibrant color and wasn’t afraid to reveal more.

Meryl Streep, in Lanvin with a Lanvin clutch and Salvatore Ferragamo shoes.  Gold is big right now and I love this gold fabric!  It’s fun and glamorous, without being too over the top.  The shape is sexy, yet sophisticated.

More gold: Jessica Chastain, in Alexander McQueen with Harry Winston jewels.

Olivia Wilde paired her Gucci with gold.  This simple look is oh so sexy with smoky eyes and hair in a bun.

Do me a favor.  Put your hand over Kelly Osbourne’s face.  Isn’t that an awesome Badgley Mischka dress?!  Her figure looks fantastic.  The sheer cutouts are super trendy and the emerald embellishments are so pretty.  I think Kelly is beautiful and so funny.  But I wish she would change her hair color!  Or take a cue from Katy Perry and at least color coordinate.

Jon Hamm and Jennifer Westfeldt, in a custom made Imperial Violet silk velvet Johanna Johnson gown with.  Again, the color of this dress is so rich because of the velvet material.  I do wish she had pulled her hair up.

Kathy Freston, in an unknown dress.  While this is a more casual style for the Vanity Fair Oscar party, I adore this color.  She must be ready for spring and so am I!

The It List: 2012 SAG Awards

Love Lace

Lace, as a trend, has evolved over the past few years but has stayed mainstream among all types of well-dressed ladies, including actresses walking the red carpet.  So it’s refreshing to see Michelle Williams wear the dainty fabric as a unique detail on a dress with a modern cut.  Expect the novel trend factor to wear off, but such an elegant look will always be “in.”

The oversized lace pattern, irregular V-neck hem and full skirt on the first option and the lace back and high collar on the second choice, set these lace numbers apart from the rest.

All That Jazz

I am so excited that fashion powerhouses like Badgley Mischka, Gucci, Christian Dior, Chloé…  are reveling in the roaring 1920s!  Now we can all pretend we’re living The Great Gatsby.

While fashion from the twenties is the next big revival, there aren’t many options available off the rack just yet.  I did find this blush pink gown from Caché.  Search for loose-fitting pieces with beaded embellishments and drop-waists.  Until then, try a flapper headband, like this one from BaroqueAndRoll on Etsy.

I also must mention…

Emma Stone – She does no wrong.  I adore her Victorian-inspired Alexander McQueen dress with a matching custom-made clutch.  It’s covered with the same black lace as her dress and the knuckle handle is embellished with the iconic McQueen skull and two unicorns.  I covet a McQueen clutch, but as a fan of unicorns, I especially want this masterpiece.

Lucky me found a similar clutch with an emellished knuckle handle at T.J. Maxx.  I wore it with the navy lace dress to the auto show preview.

Glenn Close – While I’m not sure how I feel about this sexy corset dress on Glenn Close, I would love to wear it myself.
